entertaining. I decided to compile some outrageous pictures of dogs. What dog breed could be more suitable to show than the hound dog breeds. I will attempt to gather the longest Hound Dog breed list over a short time. I would very much like you to add a hound dog breed I may have missed. Just add to comments or contact page.

There is an orangutang and hound dog that are very close. Here is their story. There passion as best friends is touching and an inspiring love story of true friendship.

Tell me agin, thats funny.

In the pantheon of animal odd couples, these two belong up there with Kermit and Miss Piggy. Suryia the orangutan and Roscoe the Bluetick Coonhound met in a sanctuary for endangered animals two years ago, in South Carolina, according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail. Roscoe was an underfed stray, but Suryia quickly took him under his wing. Dr. Bhagavan Antle, founder of The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (TIGERS) in Myrtle Beach, told the Daily Mail that Roscoe followed him and Suryia through the park’s gate one day. “As soon as he saw Roscoe, Suryia ran over to him and they started playing,” Antle said “It was unusual because dogs are usually scared of primates; but they took to each other straight away.”

I Love these Photo Sessions, Don't You?

After a few unsuccessful phone calls to find an owner, Antle said they decided to let Roscoe stay. Now the the pair have a ball frolicking around the park. “They will spend a few hours each day together rolling around, swimming,” Antle said. “Suryia will take Roscoe for walks around the enclosure and even feeds him some of his monkey biscuits.” The pair may even appear soon on Oprah Winfrey’s show, the Daily Mail reported.

Come on honey, lets take a nap.

Surya the Orangutan may not be familiar to many of you as the ape companion of Dr. Bhagavan “Doc” Antle, founder and director of The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species. You may remember him, though, from his segment on the National Geographic Channel and subsequent YouTube video sensation in which he met and formed a fast (and somewhat surprising!) friendship with Rosco, the stray hound dog. Posted in September of 2009, the video is enjoying new life as it makes the viral rounds once again. As of this posting, it’s up to just shy of one million views! It’s no surprise why. Animal antics are delightful to watch, and the more human the behavior, the funnier and more endearing an audience is likely find it. But there’s something particularly heart-warming about the tale of Surya and Rosco. A dog without a pack meets a young, playful orangutan. Without a moment’s hesitation they are rolling around together, wrestling and playing. Surya even provides food from her own rations!

6HOUNDS19 400x257 Suryia the Orangutan and Roscoe the Hound

Roscoe the dog and and Surya the Orangutang

“A good pack leader is going to make sure that his pack survives,” said Cesar Millan. “He needs the pack; he can’t make it by himself. It’s no surprise that an orangutan, or a cat, or a dog, or any animal in this situation would share food with a follower.” Though the dog was encouraged to leave and return to its home, he continued to come back day after day. The ape and dog had become a pack of two; inseparable. What fraternal instinct brought the two together? What can we learn from their friendship? The social habits of animals can serve as a window into our own behavior and the behavior of our canine companions. “You can see that no matter what the orangutan is doing, the dog is in a submissive state,” said Millan of the video. “He touches him, kisses him, and no matter what he does, the dog remains submissive. That is trust at its best. That tells you that you don’t need to know dogtraining to establish a relationship with a dog. The fundamentals of life are universal; it’s about trust, respect, and loyalty. And it happens right away for animals. It can take a long time for humans, because we intellectualize it. A human, before he gets a dog, has already read four or five books on dog training, so when he finally has the dog, he is confused about which method to practice! The orangutan is a beautiful example of how instincts work differently.”

Don't ever leave me ever, ever, EVER!

What has the bond between Surya and Rosco taught you? Their bond has taught me that LOVE will take you in and make you it’s own. You will stay where true love abides. It makes me sad to imagine the day one will lose the other. Many thanks to the humans that allow these two to live their lives with each other. There are other stories of unlikely animal best friends. I will add more later.

The funniest hound dog pictures I could find are here for your enjoyment until the next best friend animal story.

1279787441 15 dog health question?

I have a dalmatian who is very thin as compared to any other I have seen. she is not emaciated in any way, just very lean. We have never been too concerned as she has always gotten a clean bill of health at the vet and has LOTS of energy. there have been a couple times in the past 3 mos or so that she has vommited a large amount of kibble quite a while after she ate. we were slightly concerned but being as she acted completely normal after (had lots of energy, ate and drank fine, and has healthy BMs) we did not worry too much. We came to see my BFs mom who has 2 dogs. one of which got into must have gotten into something because he vomited it up. even though it was soon after he ate breakfast, all he vomited was the wraper and some stomach fluid, no kibble. this got me thinking that maybe my dog is not digesting her food properly and that is why she would vomit so much kibble even though she ate so long ago and also why she is so thin compared to other dalmatians…continued…I have a call into the vet but I have asked about her weight and they have never been concerned. they say she looks fine and his very healthy. any thoughts?she does eat very fast but the couple times that this happened, she didn’t throw up until probably at least couple hours after she ate.

  1. That would make an interesting study too. I wonder if each dog claims a house as his territory or if they share at all.

  2. Neat, you’d think it’d be hard to get 1,600 dogs to sit and stay icon wink mental floss Blog » A Shanty Town for Dogs?

  3. That sucks that people only want purebred dogs there when there are all of these lonely dogs that could use a good loving home! The people will just be bringing in more dogs from where they can get purebreds and what if they escape or get out as dogs sometimes do? They’ll just add to the feral population and produce more mutts.

  4. At the risk of sounding insensitive, that’s a terrible idea. Granted, it’s better than catching dogs and forcing them to live in a cage it’s entire life because nobody wants them. Still, the more stray dogs you shelter and feed, the more they’ll reproduce and there will eventually be even more stray dogs that will be needing more food and shelter. in nature, if an animal population is too high it dies off until the numbers are sustainable. Why waste resources on creating an unsustainable population? Heck, you could make buying purebreds illegal, it would help much more.

Dog Training ? Dog Crate Training

1279773016 28 Dog Training ? Dog Crate Training

A dog crate is a metal and plastic cage for your dog to sleep in or be in while you are away, the crate helps give your dog a secure place to live while in your home and a place to retreat to when things get a bit to hectic as they do in many family homes today.

Crate training is a very popular and effective technique for teaching your dog right from wrong; this method includes teaching rules of eliminating, sleeping arrangements, and keeping your dog from being destructive when you are out amongst many other benefits.

To crate train you must choose a correctly sized crate that your dog or puppy will be able to grow into with time and they will not be too cramped or have too much space. if your dog has a crate that is too small they won’t want to live there or go there and if the crate is too large it leads to eliminating problems.

You should make your dog feel as comfortable as you can in their crate; this should include putting a bowl of water with your dog in their crate, a nice easily cleanable blanket and put them in an area that is widely used by the family so they always feel part of what is going on.

When you are out, your dog can be closed in their crate to ensure common bad behavioural problems don’t happen while you are out such as chewing, biting and eliminating in the house. be sure not to keep your dog in their crate for longer than about 4 hours and to let them go to the toilet on a regular basis.

Dogs will naturally not want to eliminate in their place of sleep so as you dog gets used to its new sleeping area it will want to go to the toilet only when they are let out so be sure to take them to their appropriate place for eliminating when they are let out, then reward them for behaving in the correct manner.

Always reward your dog for using the crate in the correct way and be sure all members of the family know that the dog should not be pestered in their crate. as long as this rule is followed then you won’t go far wrong and you will begin to notice great improvements in your dog’s behaviour immediately.

Dog Training Aids To The Rescue

1279742421 69 Dog Training Aids To The Rescue

You can go through your dog training activities in a breeze if you are equipped with all the right stuff. Among the basic items that you will need in training your dog are a 6-foot leather leash, a slip or choke collar, a 15-foot line, cotton rope or webbing, bait pouches, a crate or exercise pen, baby gates, motivational toys and grooming tools.

Leashes or Leads

There is a wide variety of leashes available in the market today. Leashes can be made from a number of different materials and may come in different sizes and widths. Among the most common materials used for leashes are leather, nylon and chain.

For maximum comfort for both you and your dog, it would be advisable to choose a 6-foot leash made from good quality leather and use it during your dog training sessions. Among the many advantages of using leather leashes are the following:

.It can provide more comfort for you and your dog during trainings. unlike nylon leads, good quality leather does not cut or burn your skin. And unlike chain leashes, leather leads do not produce earsplitting noises.

.It is lightweight and is therefore easier to carry.

.Leather leashes last a lot longer. they can even last for several years!

Using slip or training collars can be a logical choice when you are trying to train your dog. These collars tighten as the dog pulls and loosen as he/she relaxes giving your dog the appropriate signals whenever he/she is making a mistake. however, collars should never be used to punish or choke your dog. When buying a collar, make sure you pick one that fits your dog properly. Collars that are either too small or too large can be dangerous and extremely irritating to your dog.

Dogs who do not respond to slip collars would do better with a halter. a halter fits over the dog’s head and muzzle while allowing him/her to pant and to drink. You can easily control the direction of the dog’s head and his entire body as well by using a halter.

A 15-foot line is like a long leash that enables you to control your dog even at a distance. You can easily grab it at different places to show your dog who the boss is and as such, can be a very good dog training device.

Having dog treats in your pockets can be one of the worst inconveniences you can encounter during your dog training sessions. When the treats are scattered on your pockets, you might fumble for a while just to find where they are. as a result, there will be a delay between the time your dog performs something worthy of a treat and the actual time when the treat is given. You may not promptly give your dog the reward he or she deserves and hence, defeating the purpose of the activity altogether.

To solve this, consider purchasing or making your own bait pouches. These bait pouches can be made up from any ordinary canvas tool pouches and tied around your waist during your dog training activities. This will make access to the goodies a lot easier and your dog wouldn’t have to wait around indefinitely as you fumble for the doggie treats they just earned!

A final word of advice – do not trust every word your friendly salesman has to say. all of these items were designed to make your dog training efforts incredibly easy but with the popularity of these products in the market, a lot of manufacturers are out there to make a buck or two from unsuspecting dog owners! know what really works and what doesn’t. You need to know which of these gears deliver on their promises and which ones were designed specifically to make a profit. It would be best to do your research extensively and seek advice from credible sources to know more about these things.

LOS ANGELES What do you do when a rescue needs rescuing?

When you’re in Beverly Hills, you call an interior designer – or several. Then call stars from “Glee,” “NCIS,” “The Dog Whisperer,” and “True Blood.” Add the leading man on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” dozens of dogs and have a sold-out fashion show.

Stars walked with strays on the runway, trying to find homes for the animals. the well dressed wore doggy couture made from the latest fabrics created by the interior designers called Patterns for Paws, who hoted the show on behalf of a struggling animal rescue, the Amanda Foundation.

Gleek Jenna Ushkowitz ended the show at the Pacific Design Center with her signature “True Colors.”

“My animals keep me sane. They are my life,” NCIS’s tattooed Pauley Perrette said on the red carpet made of green grass, holding a puppy in need of adopting.

Perrette spent 10 years volunteering for the Amanda Foundation, a 34-year-old animal rescue that has seen private donations drop 70 percent this year. the night’s profits will all go to the rescue, which saves dogs and cats in their last hours from the county’s 28 shelters.

Her escort on the runway was a three-legged terrier mix named Astaire, who needs a home.

“Every single person on our show has animals and pretty much all of them are rescues,” she said. “We are all animal fanatics.”

Nigel Lythgoe, an “American Idol” pioneer and producer, executive producer and judge for “So You Think You Can Dance,” was the emcee.

“Literally, in the last three weeks, I adopted two dogs,” he said to hoots and barks from the crowd. “For the first time in my life, I am newly divorced and I was looking for companionship. My ex-wife Bonnie thought I was crazy to take on two dogs – and one of the dogs was named Bonnie. so I’ve got another woman who doesn’t listen to me now.”

Stars who walked the runway Thursday night included HBO comedian Bill Maher, Tina Sinatra and Kristin Bauer of HBO’s “True Blood,” whose runway companion, a terrier mix named Sinjin, wore a Los Angeles Lakers jacket signed by Luke Walton, a kerchief signed by Kobe Bryant and a leash signed by Lamar Odom.

Ticket sales brought in $30,000, a design center spokeswoman said, and they hoped to raise as much as $20,000 on the silent auction. it won’t bail the rescue out of its donation hole, but it will make a good dent, Ellen Rubin said.

To effectively train your sport or hunting dogs, try to teach them the guidelines that are provided in this article. It is really important to learn the correct way for a simple but valuable sport dog training command!

Training your very hyperactive sport or hunting dog is not an easy task. Understanding dog attitude is like solving a mathematical problem. Sometimes it’s hard but you always have to look for effective solutions to solve it. And when it comes to dog training, one good solution is to purchase a sport dog training collar. this device will help you a lot in finding ways to better solve your training problems. whether you’re in the hunting field or in various sports related areas, training your very energetic dog is so easy when using sport hunter dog training collars.

Isn’t it amazing how various techniques for teaching one of the most basic hunting dog commands can be so useful? Dog trainers may work hard trying to command their sport or hunting dogs with the word “come,” or “here.” It’s just the most common technique for trainers however, it will take them so much time to completely train these agitated dogs.

So for a more effective way, try giving them commands while using remote dog trainer. Nowadays, most hunters are learning the advantages of teaching this command while their sport dogs wear our electric dog training collars.

Each dog trainers and hunters has their own goal, regardless of whether he’s going to train a pointing or a hunting dog. The first thing to remember is to develop a dog having the confidence to obey the command of the trainer.

Whatever happens, take note that the dog you are training shouldn’t hesitate to give all of his 100 percent to obey your commands. you can easily increase your dogs’ interest during the training using our remarkable electronic dog collar training. using this device will also run the risk of raising a dog that will leave your side for fear of being warned.

Practically speaking, there are kinds of hunting or sport dogs whose genetic makeup gives them the energy to just run around no matter what the circumstances which are also hard to train. but enthusiasm of every dog can be seen when they were still young so it’s best for you to place training dog collars on their neck and train them while they were still young.

For the first training days of a dog’s life, try to give him the commands that you usually give him. And then place the remote training collar on his neck and make sure that it won’t be too narrow to hold your dogs breathe.

When you think that your dog eventually manage to move unconsciously with his electronic dog collar, then it is the right time for you to continue training your hunting or sport dog in the field. With the use of our sport dog training collars, you can easily and confidently command your dog with so much ease. you can perform the training in the same field where you are hunting or have been doing other drills.

After doing the same task everyday and when you notice that your dog already understands all your commands, we can guarantee that it will really be effective. your sport dog will immediately learn the basic and eventually become professional dogs after a couple of weeks. this is due to the stimulation that he receives from the collar. but always remember that you must use the lowest stimulation first so that your dog will not be surprised with the pulse and will accurately respond to it.

Just follow these steps and I am sure that you will end up raising a hard-running dog but will instantly obey you and that you can call back to when there is an emergency or whenever it is necessary.

1279238418 63 ‘Dog Tongs’ Attract IreBy Devin Banerjee

Stray dogs are a staple everywhere in India. The World Health Organization recommends that they be rounded up with large nets.

Yet Ahmedabad, in Gujarat, continues to round them up using a method that looks better-suited to a Dickens novel than to one of India’s most advanced cities: giant iron tongs. (You can see a related video here.)

The practice has caught the attention of animal rights supporters, resulting in a mighty dog fight.

youtube.comThis still from a YouTube video shows what appears to be dog catchers in Ahmedabad dragging a dog using iron tongs.

Nearly 1,800 dog activists have signed a petition addressed to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the city’s executive body, to “register shock, disgust and moral outrage at the illegal, cruel and downright barbaric treatment” of the city’s stray dogs by the municipality.

The activists claim the iron tongs kill as many as half of the dogs they ensnare by inflicting internal injuries. The activists also oppose the AMC’s practice of dumping dogs on the city’s outskirts instead of taking them to immunization and sterilization centers.

Their allegations are echoed by the Animal Welfare Board of India, a 28-member governmental body based in Chennai.

“A lot of cruelties are happening there,” R.M. Kharb, the board’s chairman, said of Ahmedabad in a telephone interview. “they are using tongs to catch the dogs and they are dumping the dogs in other places.”

AMC Deputy Commissioner Dilip Mahajan declined comment on the petition or the activists’ allegations. The reason: The petition is endorsed by Lisa Warden, the daughter of William Warden, former Canadian high commissioner to India.

The 45-year-old Canadian dog activist has spent two years pressuring the AMC to pump more funding into immunizing and sterilizing street dogs. on June 14, Ms. Warden removed iron tongs from a government office, the Cattle Nuisance and Control Department, in Danilimda, Ahmedabad. she says she did so with the permission of Capt. Mahajan and had them destroyed.

But later that week, she was charged by Ahmedabad police with theft, obstruction of public servants, extortion and misleading the public. she was also served with a $2 million civil defamation suit filed by the AMC. she denies the charges.

“It is entirely false that I went to the CNCD [Cattle Nuisance and Control Department] office as some kind of vigilante Rambo with the intent of stealing the tongs and obstructing the work of the CNCD,” she said. “I went to the CNCD as per my agreement with the AMC itself.”

The day after visiting the CNCD, she left for Vietnam, where she says her husband works. she says she did not leave Ahmedabad because of the charges. but she is worried AMC officials will try to have her Indian visa revoked. “Ever since I met Capt. Mahajan in 2009, he has made it clear that he feels I should return to my country,” she said.

Capt. Mahajan declined to comment on Ms. Warden. of the charges against her, he said: “they are playing out in court.”

Ms. Warden said she can defend the civil defamation suit without being present in Ahmedabad but may have to return for the criminal charges filed in the Gujarat High Court. If convicted, she says she faces up to 10 years of “rigorous imprisonment.”

The Animal Welfare Board has now thrown itself into the fray. Dr. Kharb, the board’s chairman, said he traveled to Ahmedabad last week with a proposal to split the cost of training AMC dog catchers to use butterfly nets—the WHO’s preferred choice for rounding up canines—and sterilizing dogs on the premises of local NGOs. The AMC signed onto the memorandum, which restricts it from contracting any dog catcher or NGO not approved by the Animal Welfare Board, he said.

Capt. Mahajan said Ahmedabad is committed to the program, which will begin after the municipality conducts its first dog census. The census is expected to begin next month and take two months to complete.

But the activists refuse to let up. their online petition, which had garnered 1,785 signatures as of Tuesday, is also demanding that all charges be dropped against Ms. Warden.

How to Train Your Dog Like a Dog Whisperer

1279220410 76 How to Train Your Dog Like a Dog Whisperer

There is nothing worse than a dog who misbehaves around people or other animals. it causes the dog owner embarrassment and it can present safety issues. People with unruly dogs wish they could train their canines to behave like angels. A dog owner does not need to be an ultimate canine behavior expert like the dog whisperer in order to provide effective behavior training.

Dogs often exhibit behavior problems such as barking, digging, biting, and jumping. some dogs are very difficult to house train, while others experience separation anxiety when the owners leave the home. Any of these problems can become more than an owner can handle, and when a dog exhibits these behaviors in combination, the pooch is on the fast track to the dog pound.

There are many places that owners can take their dogs for obedience training. there are also online training courses for dogs. A high quality dog training program should cover the most common behavioral problems exhibited by dogs and allow for personal consultation with a trainer. In the class, the trainers should teach owners to display leadership and control unwanted behavior by applying specific methods. the pet will then have deeper respect and present less challenge to an owner it perceives as a strong leader.

One of the most common tips that an owner will learn is not to use the recall word when calling the dog for correction or discipline. the recall word is a word such as “come” that is used when getting the dog to come to the owner. the pet must be caught in the act of committing the bad behavior in order for correction to be effective. If the dog still needs to come near the owner for some reason, tell it to sit and then retrieve the canine. Using the recall word will cause the dog to associate that word with being in trouble.

The best way to get a dog to learn new things is to make sure that it understands what is being asked of it. Effective training does not involve countless hours of repetition. the goal is to get your friend to listen to the owner in the shortest time.

Dogs do not come to owners with knowledge of the human language. it is up to owners to teach their canines this language. In order to do this in a quick and healthy manner, take a dog obedience course online or in person. Dog owners may feel like the dog whisperer when they have completed the training because the dog will be so well-behaved, it may seem like a new pet.
